That is because of Sun's insistence of retaining copyright on all
committed code. Thus, code that Joe Hacker submits to OOo with the
intention of improving that great GPL application could be used in
Star Office (Sun's proprietary OOo version) with no mention nor thanks
to Joe, and the code might never be incorporated in OOo as well.

Most of the big Linux distros, *buntu included, use the Go-oo code.
