Dunno - not using NERD_Tree - but it's Vim, so it can be done, it's
just a question of how :-)
http://www.catonmat.net/blog/vim-plugins-nerdtree-vim/ suggests the 't' key.
I think I'm going to have to look closer at NERD_Tree myself...
