HELP! I destroyed /var/cache/apt **FIXED**

Folks,

Well I got it back together, but is was not pretty...

I wound up doing a complete install and applied all the updates...

Then reconfigured everything(and that was a bunch). The system is my 
firewall and is headless to boot...

A gentle word here-- IF YOU ARE DOING SPARSE BACKUPS INCLUDE /var AS 
PART OF IT! I had not been...
