Flamewar! Suit up people! Clifford, look at what you have done.
I run KDE (KDE4) on Jaunty and I hear things are better on Karmic but
you might find things less troublesome with GNOME.
You can install both and try them out. If you have a Windows mobile
phone, Dolphin/Konqueror support the whatcha call it protocol for
managing files on the phone. Not sure about GNOME file managers...
