you say you downloaded them from 'the website'. To which website are you
referring? Also, how did you try installing the broadcom drivers? Did
you first attempt to install via "System > Administration > Hardware
Drivers"? If you did, and that failed, can you provide more information?
If you did not try the latter method, that is usually the preferred
method to install things like wireless and graphics drivers, because the
drivers installed by that method are well supported, better tested, and
they take care of any special steps that need to be taken.
In your cause, since it seems you installed them manually, I would guess
you missed a step in the installation process... but I can't be sure
until you provide more information.
