I actually have one of those and have used it. It has a power supply for the 
drive and an adapter that goes from the IDE drive connector to a USB port. My 
Kubuntu system has recognized this for years and mounts the drive as if it 
were a USB drive. If the drive does not mount it is too trashed to read. I 
saved all my son's data with this when his Windows system crashed about a year 
ago. Handy little device.
