Yes that helps. A lot, actually.
What you need, isn't a vpn but a proxy.
I have used xroxy.com to view the BBC iPlayer (only available in the UK).
Xroxy also has an US proxy.
There are other services like Xroxy, now that you know what to look for,
I'm sure that you will be able to find more.
