unusual sound problem on my samsung r440

actually now that i have shut down to comp and start it back up, i
realized that it was what brought the sound back and not switching
desktop environments. i do get a message when i boot in as well -forgot
the mention it because i didnt think there was any relevance- about not
being able to have access to the .ICEathority file.
