I've never used logcheck, but it can make a lot of sense, indeed to 
desire tightened filtering.

(The puzzled answer many of us, including me, gave to your post is that 
it asked for *less* logging for start, which is a bad idea. Asking for 
log filtering in a log reading app makes a lot of sense instead)

Alas, I don't know how can you do it *without* regular expressions. What 
do you propose?
