There might be a few possible reasons for this.
1) cd burned at too fast a speed. I always burn iso's at the slowest speed I
can
2) defective image/cd
3) the installer might not like your hardware. In this case the alternate cd
image may work better for you. I think it has a text mode install which may
help
Not sure how much has been covered by others as I'm obviously chiming in late
My guess would be you may need the alternate cd
