Just my opinion, but Evolution is an abortion of good sense when it
comes to LDAP directories and IMAP mail systems... just my opinion.
I've been running Evolution for a few months now, and have it hitting
two IMAP mail servers, one private, one work, and my company LDAP
directory.
Autocompletion for me can take anywhere from 1 to 60 seconds, if it
works at all. Also, Evolution tends to freeze sometimes when
accessing the IMAP or LDAP servers... for example, I could try writing
a new mail, start typing a recipient, and Evolution will try to
autocomplete using the LDAP directory and just sit there, churning for
HOURS until I have to forcefully kill it off.
It also tends to hang after running for so long (usually the status
reads "Filtering new messages 0%" and it will sit there for days if I
allow it to. (It once sat like that over the weekend and never did
actually recover).
I'm about to remove Evolution this weekend and go back to Thunderbird.
I gave it a shot years ago and it was crap, I gave it a shot again,
and it's still crap.
Again, that's just been my experience with Evolution, and I'm sure
there's someone on the list who can attest that Evolution combined
with IMAP and LDAP will spew forth puppies, kittens and rainbows....
so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
Cheers,
Jeff
