Sounds great, but my very first upgrade (from 5.10 to 6.06 IIRC) failed.
So now I've got two alternating partitions. 9.10 is in use on partition A, 
and 10.04 is installed on B.
If 10.04 works, I can easily migrate everything I want from A to B. When 
10.10 comes out, I can give it a try on A and migrate of B to A if I 
desire.
If 10.04 fails, I can still boot 9.10 from A and wait for 10.10 to give it 
another try on B.
I'll always have a working version of Ubuntu, no matter how much they
(or I) screw up.
