Byobu won't start (for one user)

Hi all!

I did a test upgrade of one of our VMs to 10.04 today, and all appears
to have gone well, except for one maddening issue: byobu won't start on
my account.  All I get is a black screen.  The process list show this
under my account:
walton    1408  0.1  0.0  25160  1284 pts/0    S+   16:05   0:00 screen
-c /usr/share/byobu/profiles/byoburc -t shell motd+shell

Byobu works fine for all other accounts on the machine.  I have tried
deleting the .byobu folder in my home folder with the same results.

Any suggestions?
