A "from the hip"-suggestion, check the camera's menus
for usb-settings controlling if the camera should
present itself as a camera or usb-storage to the
computer.

Or you could buy a memory-card reader compatible
with the cameras memory-card, assuming the camera has
a removable memory-card.
