Before booting, there is the grub menu to select 10.04 or 9.10 to boot
up. (unless somehow you have lost this and you will need to press
'shift' when you start up your computer to make this appear)
At the 10.04 line, the first entry, press 'e' to edit and at the linux
line, which looks something like this...
linux /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.32-21-generic
root=UUID=c4aea9ce-65c8-415d-ac28-da51478e8053 ro vga=769 quiet splash
place your cursor at the end of the line (press 'end') and remove
'splash' and 'quiet' (press backspace)
Then press 'ctl' + 'x' to boot.
If booted okay and fine, come back here again and we'll try to sort out
what happened and what next to do.
