Which one are you using? I would also like to do network scans using an HP
Color Multifunction LaserJet. However, the HP site isn't clear:

The column in question is "Scan to PC". The #3 note states:
"3 Scan supported means that PC initiated scan using a SANE compatible
software application is supported over parallel, USB, or network
(depending on I/O connection)."
So, just because it will scan to PC, it doesn't mean via the network - even
though you have it connected to your network. The scan function may
require that you use USB.
Also note that they all don't work regardless of interface. I wanted a
CM3530 and this chart clearly states that it won't work.
If you simply want an adequate network scan (questionable printer) I
recommend an OfficeJet Pro 8500. Unfortunately it is inkjet not laser.
