System|Preferences|Remote Desktop
Applications|Internet|Remote Desktop Viewer / Terminal Server Client
are what you are looking for.
However, there are so many varied ways to do this that perhaps the
following will help (or confuse):

You must keep in mind that whatever method you choose, you will need to
ensure that her router/modem will allow you to connect to the remote
servers port number(s). The easiest way to do this is to test while you
are near her system, so that you can configure the router/modem
properly. Once that's done, the rest is not all that difficult.
The hardest part is figuring out how you want to do it, opening the
proper ports on the router/modem, and how to keep it reasonably secure
so that other unwanted "visitors" don't get in or keep hammering her
port(s) trying to get in. For my relatives, friends, clients, I have
them keep remote closed until then actually need assistance. Only then
do I have them open the port & allow access. I also install denyhosts
and a few other security applications in order to help tighten the
outside holes.

Many of us on the list use remote access on a daily basis, so don't
hesitate to come back and ask for additional help.
