DVD transcoding under Ubuntu

OS: Ubuntu 9.10 x64.


I have checked a few DVD transcorders (AKA DVD rippers), which create
AVI/MP4 files, however non-latin subtitles appear messy (this happens
probably because of the default UTF8 encoding used for text file
encoding in Ubuntu 9.10).


Does anyone know any work around, or any DVD transcoding application
that works OK with non-latin subtitles under Ubuntu Linux?
