I just checked the setting and it was set to 'Server for Australia'. 
However, I went deeper and found a useful option whereby all the servers 
were "pinged" to find the best one to use and, surprisingly - or not 
surprisingly, it selected not my own ISP, which is a mirror for Ubuntu, 
but another local ISP :-) . We'll now see if the thruput improves :-) .
