Can't log in gnome session after changing display

When you say "cant' log in the gnome session", what specifically do you
mean?
- Are you getting the gdm screen at all?
- Are you having problems selecting a user? etc., etc.
- How did you change the display resolution?

Also helps if you provide information on your ubuntu version; are you
using 8.04, 9.10, 10.04(beta1)?
