You jogged my memory. I think I was trying to use gconftool-2 and I got
the command line from somehwere -- maybe compiz but it did not have any
reference in the command line to either compiz or metacity--at least
what I remember. There were a number of command lines and gconftool-2
started these command lines. Sorry, I tried to make a copy of them but
when my computer crashed all terminal actions were lost.back to where
that terminal session I lost started. I've had that happen a number of
times. Thank you for jogging my memory and it looks like I need to do
some more reading. I guess I need to understand the use of these
windows managers as one of the two command lines you provided. I am not
sure I understand the concept of using a windows manager associated with
a web site and no installation is involved. I realize that gconftool-2
is installed on Ubuntu 8.04 and now I remember using the man pages to
try and understand how to put the command line together which effort on
my part failed. I will have to go back to the man pages in the light of
your examples. You seem to be saying that somehow gconftool-2 can be
somehow linked to a web site having a special windows manager and that
combination can be directly used to define the number of work spaces on
my machine. If I understand you then this is very new way of doing
things--for me anyway.
Thanks very much for taking the time to give me these examples.
Thanks, Ted Hilts
