Pfff. You want to manage your MySQL, manage your MYSQL the "man" way!

- open a terminal
- type "mysql -u root -p"
- create an user
- play with SLQ queries.

Secondly, if you have problem with phpmyadmin:
install mysql-query-browser
It's far better thant phpmyadmin.

Last:
PHP is for dummies.
Use python or OCaml for Web programming.
At least, Perl...

After the last:
Use PostGreSQL too...
