You're not helping your own case. Yes, Karl is a pita, and no, I'm not
surprised nothing he told you worked, and no, he can't kick you off the
list, but your attitude is not encouraging anybody.
First, please stop top-posting. It makes it hard to have a conversation,
and it alienates those of us who'd like to help. This is the only top-
posted message in this thread I'll be responding too - you've already been
asked more politely than Karl did.
9.04 _is_ stable. That doesn't mean that there aren't bugs, but your
situation is highly unusual.
/dev/pts _is_ automounted. You shouldn't have to mount it yourself (and I
rather expect mounting it yourself is part of your problem).
So first you need to search your system logs and see if you can find an
error from its initial attempt to mount devpts.
Then, if you absolutely need to mount it yourself, it should have the
options "rw,noexec,nosuid,gid=5,mode=620". gid 5 is "tty". I expect your
"freeze" is because the "tty" user can't access the terminal.
