gedit should open the file just fine, and a php script is essentially
nothing more than a text file with some code tags in it (more-or-less
just like HTML). that error is gedit giving you when you try to open it?
it's possible that it's not actually a php file (just a file disguised
to look like one).
But, if you want to try another program, I personally use Bluefish
Editor for doing web-dev stuff (including php scripts) and it should
open it just fine if it actually is a php file.
If you like, you could email me the script (personally, not to the list)
and I could see if there's something wrong with it.
have fun!
