PS3 controller in Ubuntu 9.04

Hi, I am trying to get Ubuntu to recoginize my PS3 controller. It works in Windows (with a driver) but I have never conected any kind of controller to Ubuntu and I'm not sure how to find a controller settings application (like the game controller applictaion in under control panel in Windows). If anyone could help me get it going I would be most appreciative.
