ubuntu karmic RC

I installed Karmic RC last night, and everything works nice, except a
little problem: internet is up and working (I can use skype),
but firefox starts, but doesn`nt find any web pages. The reason is
clearly that the dns system is not working.

When I had such problems earlier, iI used to edit some files
/etc/resol.conf
/etc/network/interfaces
manually, using sudo pico ....
and then
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
and everything worked. But this does not work now!!! (I`m writing this
on a windows machine)

Any ideas?
