No, but remote-firefox asks your local-firefox to open a new window. It
is a (sometimes inconvenient) feature. Fortunately you can disable it
by launching
MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 firefox
on the remote machine. If you often use firefox on the remote machine,
you can consider adding MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 as a default environment
variable.
