I'm going to answer your question with another question.
What do you want to use your editor for?

There is a good reason for multiple editors: some are better at specific
tasks, while others do other things easier.

Second question, do you want to "use" Linux, or do you want to "know" Linux?
If you want to be a normal user and only occasionaly need to edit files,
use gedit, kate, or nano in a console.
If you need to be productive with text files all the time, download one of
the "vi(m) cheat sheets" (GIYF). Or grow a sixth finger on each hand so
you can make all those keystrokes in emacs.
