Certainly there may be. Searching the existence of a package has got
to be the #1 easiest thing to do in a modern distribution (and only
those with a centrailized equally accessible repository need to be
examined.

But still some people can't accept or even consider this wonderful system.

I don't really want to go into others here, but just in closing, I
spent some time over breakfast with a friend and his wife and I got
"religious" about reasons to use Linux. Not that I beat him up about
it, but I explained a few reasons I use it is that it is there.

I told him (in layman's terms, he is somewhat literate in the
technology why, but he does paid tech support for Apple.) While I was
going on about linux, I mentioned potential drawbacks too:

1) how to support distributions and that paradigm (probably more
difficult but it dcan potentially be a big investment in time than
providing support for $commercial_OS.

2) the availablity (choice) of software, accessible instantly (if you
have the supported bandwidth) is of course a big good - but finding
which app does what is a potential issue. But that of course is easily
cured with a bit of googling and other available tools.

3) might be a hurdle for users but most people, once they know how to
look. Choosing the right software for a task is nice, but these days a
distro is so big hat it damn near includes access to everything.;
