I think, but don't quote me, as I don't do LTS, and I got into Ubuntu
first at the 8.04 Hardy release (primarily on a box build and first
amd64/64 bit.)
But I think it is going to be more difficult because a) I think the
way to do LTS releases is to upgrade directly from one LTS to another
one So I think the way to do this is to go from 6.06 directly to 8.04
without intervening steps. But the difficulty lies with 6.06 reaching
EOL back in July of this year. EOL means "end of life" and means that
this release is no longer being supported. So there won't be any more
security fixes on 6.06.
It might be better for you in this instance to do a fresh install of
8.04, if you want to still track long term releases, because they're
only released every two years, and the next scheduled one will be
April 2010 (the LL release.) Should you want to go to something more
current (of course there are advantages and disadvantages). 9.10
Karmic will be released by the end of October.
