In short, the 05suspend_modules file is missing and I am unable to create
a file named i8042 in the directory /etc/pm/config.d/. The only file
 present is 00sleep_module.

As I have figured out the hard way, apparently the su command does not
increase permissions for the GNOME file browser and one can not log in as
root. Until I found the cp command, which is not listed by the help command
and does not have a man file for some reason. I am assuming that simply
copying a file named 00sleep_module which only contains the text 18042 will
not help.

I do apologize for any brashness, I am a bit tired at this point in time.
