problems with wryptinit in karmic

Hi ubuntu-users,

In installed the 9.10 beta of Karmic. My home dir is on a separate 
encrypted directory shared with jaunty. I sat up the cryptinit startup 
script in exactly the same manner in Karmic and disabled the spash 
screen (no quiet splash in /etc/default/grub) but the splash screen is 
still there (I ran the grub-install script) and I am not asked for the 
passwd to get access to the eenvrypted drive.

Any help is appreciated
