I have fought this battle and given up. Flash is not open source and
it sucks, end of story. BUT! You can get flash sites to work by
installing MS firefox and then installing MS Flash. I will all be
running under Wine and it will all work. Sady, Ubuntu still has some
holes but they are mostly easily fixed.

Don't assume that most of your other problems are related. THey are
likely drive problems and each will need its own fix.
