Command line printing settings/defaults on 9.10 not working correctly

Got the same problem here. Since upgrading from Kubuntu 9.04 to Kubuntu
9.10 printing with cups via the lp or lpr interface gives big and wide
letters, lines are cut off at the paper margin.
My printer is a HP DeskJet 940c.
