etc alternatives craziness

Whoa there. I in no way 'vote' for Ubuntu. He would have got same 
comment from me if he had done what he did on the Centos list.


I have used OpenSolaris, Ubuntu and Fedora as desktops and I do not 
prefer one over the other. If he wants to drop Ubuntu because of the 
alternatives system then he is going to have to build his own distro 
since just about every major package based system have incorporated it 
by now. Even the ports-like Gentoo has the alternatives system.


If Eddie wants something that does not uses alternatives, he is welcome 
to try OpenSolaris which has no issues with binary drivers and comes 
with Nvidia drivers on disc.
