Gary I didn't ask for your root table. Here is from my Hardy
computer and is easy to see:

karl at karl-hardy:~$ sudo ifconfig
[sudo] password for karl:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:e0:4d:1f:a2:b4
          inet addr:192.168.2.2 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::2e0:4dff:fe1f:a2b4/64 Scope:Link

          TX packets:15219 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:14014346 (13.3 MB) TX bytes:2162887 (2.0 MB)
          Interrupt:18 Base address:0x4000

lo Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host

karl at karl-hardy:~$ locate sshd
/etc/pam.d/sshd
/etc/ssh/sshd_config
/home/karl/sshd
/home/karl/sshd~
/usr/sbin/sshd
/usr/share/man/man5/sshd_config.5.gz
/usr/share/man/man8/sshd.8.gz
karl at karl-hardy:~$

This proves my Hardy ip address is 192.168.2.2 and that I have ssh
installed.

Now my Jaunty laptop has an ip address of 192.168.2.4 and has ssh
installed as well.

Now I am going to connect to Jaunty from Hardy and it looks like this:

 karl at karl-hardy:~$ sftp 192.168.2.4
Connecting to 192.168.2.4...
karl at 192.168.2.4's password:
sftp> ls
8.jpg Desktop Documents
Music
Pictures Public Templates
Videos
bin cplus dmesg.log
email-list.csv
kernel-data kgnome2_private libdvdcss.eml
log-for-29jan.txt
log-for-29jan.txt~ lspci810.log mysqlaccess.log
profiles.ini
scp.txt scp.txt~ wifi
wifi~
winestore.data wireless
sftp>

Now I will disconnect from Jaunty:

If you do not get what I get there is something wrong with either or
both your computers. Compare them to this and try to fix them.
