sharing files between ubuntu computers

I have posted this question before and no one seems to want to mess with
it. I don't understand why not. Should not be that difficult a problem to
resolve.

I have 2 ubuntu computers. Sharing files between them ought to be the
simplest thing to do. Places, network yields only 'windows network' which
can not be mounted. One computer has jaunty the other still has intrepid
(have not had time to upgrade).

I have enable sharing via shares-admin-network. The only option is to share
through windows network/SMB

I have selected some files to share through Nautilus.

ssh is installed.

Places/networking shows "window network" which upon activation shows
'unable to mount location.'

Before I installed jaunty these two computers shared files. I had no
trouble getting this to happen.

Repeated searches for help on google, and ubuntu have left me befuddled.
It's probably something simple I am over-loooking.

I appreciate any assistance.

thanks

gary
