Ah, that makes sense. I have Kaffeine installed but I'm not able
to scan (I think). I click the "Start Scan" button in Kaffeine and
nothing seems to happen.
I also installed the dvb-apps (dvb-utils) to try and test the tuner by
following:

But could not get even the scan to work (although not sure about what
to use as the initial scan file).
Seems like maybe I need a newer version of Kaffeine. In 9.04 is 0.8.6,
but this seems to indicate that 0.8.7+ is required:

I tried building Kaffeine from source and the build failed with:
channeldesc.h:104: error: 'fe_rolloff_t' does not name a type
make[6]: *** [audioeditor.lo] Error 1
So, no joy tonight.
~$ scan -c
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0' and '/dev/dvb/adapter0/demux0'

Done.
On an iMac (with software included with the device) I'm able to see
quite a few TV channels from around here (near San Francisco).
