1280 X 728 update

my laptop is three years old.  It's an Asus W3V Raedon x600 video card.
It displays 1280X768 on XP with or without the external monitor.  When I
boot up to Ubuntu without external monitor it displays 1280X768. When I
reboot and plug in external monitor, it will display at 1152x864
(Ubuntu) with the menu bar missing on the bottom on the laptop.  This is
when I turn off the laptop monitor.  It's running at 60Hz.  

I will be glad when my desktop is up and running.  shopping for
motherboard-processor and I have been posting on this issue for
feedback.

no, I wasn't referring to Derek.  I think he's dedicated also.  there
are a lot of dedicated users on the Ubuntu List. New members just have
to post, and they will get a feel of who the real pro's (geeks) are, and
who are the windbags; also to ignore the ones that are rude.
