Google's photo program Picasa is a new beta for Linux. I've used prior
versions on debian (but not ubuntu) and it seems to work fairly well,
albeit bloated and requires a fairly fast machine to do work. My old
Thunderbird had difficulty keeping up.
Picasa is mostly an organizer, but has a number of quick fix buttons
that you can use that would be harder to do in some cases with Gimp or
Digikam. Most of the time I use Digikam, but occasionally gimp &
imagemagick come in handy for simple tasks, like light adjustment or
cropping. I'm nowhere near close to being a professional photographer
or graphic artist.
Unfortunately Picasa is closed-source.
