USB Microphone quit working after 9.04 upgrade

I've been using skype w/o any problems with a Logitech Quickcam 9000.

$ lsusb | grep Quick
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 046d:0990 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Pro 9000

In Audacity I can actually see the microphone level detected when I
make noise -- the little VU meter shows any noise in the room when I
click "Start Monitoring" on the drop-down next to the mic icon.

I can record in Audacity but it cuts off after .5 seconds.

I cannot record with Sound Recorder, and Skype's test call does not
record any audio. Video is working fine from the QuickCam.

Clearly, sound is getting to the application level because I can see
the level meter working in Audacity. So, I'm a bit confused why it's
not working past that.

The microphone is not muted in the mixer for the QuickCam or any other
device.

Any ideas?

I'm wondering if I need to follow this:
