I was using Intrepid last month, and my root account was active at that time.
I didn't see any significant failure before trying to apt-get
dist-upgrade to Jaunty.
With that dist-upgrade, an boot failure problem occurred, with ls
/dev/disk failed too.
Are you mentioning this or something likewise?
