After 3 years of Ubuntu, suddenly lost sound

Well, it works again..!

Really, REALLY weird. I removed all packages that had
\'pulse\' in the name.  This removed a whole lot more
packages including some KDE stuff.

And now it works again.. This is strange because I didn\'t
install or update anything prior to losing sound.  

Whatever.. just happy it works though it doesn\'t make me
feel very confident when things can fall apart like that.
