Have I tried what?  PulseAudio (not a mess at all - never had it)?  Or 
upgrading 8.04 to 9.04 - in which case, yes, I've done it, and no I don't 
know of any problems its caused.  But the biggest problem is that I don't 
*know* of any problems its caused.  I live on the Linux edge - but you won't 
catch me snowboarding :-)  But I meant it when I said "same likelihood".  A 
broken leg is inconvenient, but not a disaster.  Wrapping yourself around a 
tree or getting caught in an avalanche is a disaster.  Almost every time, if 
you skip upgrades, the worst that could happen is like a broken leg.  It 
really _isn't_ likely to be a disaster, but it could be very inconvenient.  
You know why, but the newbie reading a blog, about how he could upgrade in 
half the time, isn't going to.
