exim can apparently do more without add-ons and is the default on
debian 5.

postfix programming is apparently held up as a model too of what good
programming should be i recall reading somewhere. i also think it can
handle volume and speed better than exim. i can't recall where i read
these things, but i know i came across them because i was contemplating
switching from postfix to exim at one time.
