Lisi, I believe you've hit the nail on the head. Most people I know
buy a 'box' that has Windows on it, set up specifically to run with
the hardware. Drivers are installed. No installation. No making
things work. If something happens (breaks or slows down) they take
'the box' to their local computer store, or maybe call a 'geek', to
have it fixed. They don't care what happened or what caused it. They
just want it fixed.

However, with Linux, whatever distribution, we must do our own
installation. We must find our own drivers and when something
doesn't work, we must fix it because the geeks and computer stores
don't know how to fix it. As you pointed out, a computer that comes
setup for the hardware can be used by anyone. It's more stable and
less expensive.

I think that the landscape is changing but, until geeks, computer
stores and manufacturers treat Linux with the same deference as
Windows, Linux will remain "more difficult to use".

the surface as well as the depth of hatred.
