Servers sluggish...

Evening all:

Is there still a clog of people running off to download the "latest and
greatest" edition of Ubuntu and in the process gumming up the works with
the load that imposes. I have tried several of the Canadian servers and
even one of the UK servers and even for updating the list after punching
reload, let alone downloading any updates or additional packages, it
seems to bog down to the point of dead stall.

Open to suggestions of what's up or pointers to other servers that might
be a good deal more spritely in their performance.

If it has any bearing on the discussion I'm using 8.04 connecting by
dial-up (GnomePPP) using an external/serial hardware modem.
