connect to wired network, if not then wireless

It should just connect to the wired network automatically by default.   
Did you check to see if maybe the drivers for that hardware are  
restricted drivers?  Because if they are, you may have to specifically  
enable it under System -> Administration -> Hardware drivers.  I had a  
similar issue with my wireless card, and it didn't start to  
automatically connecting to preferred networks in range until I  
selected the enabled option in this screen.
