If digest mail bothers you that much, you may consider adding a filter to
your mail client.
For example, I have just added the following procmail rule to my .procmailrc:

:0:
* ^Subject:.*ubuntu-users Digest, Vol [0-9]*, Issue [0-9]*
/dev/null

I'm not a regex or procmail specialist, so there may be better ways to do
this, but it is easy to understand.
