Evolution - no alarms?

I think you meant gconf-editor.
But the clue was good! That box was unticked when I looked for it in
gconf-editor. I had to restart evolution for it to take effect.
However, what I now get is a new icon on the top panel (a clock with a
flashing exclamation mark) and the appointment pops up for a few seconds
at bottom right. I used to get a whole new dialogue window pop up, with
snooze and dismiss buttons. I now get this dialogue only if I click on
the clock icon.
Sadly after notifying me the notification process dies (i.e.,
evolution-alarm-notify is no longer in the process list). I can't
win :-)
I'd love to know what the heck I changed (or what was changed for me).
Some update perhaps? I don't like it when things stop working for no
apparent reason :-(
